A Perfect Weekend for the Escape to Spring Exposition

It was the perfect weekend for the Escape to Spring Exposition that was held from March 15th-17th at Van Wilgen's Garden Center in North Branford Connecticut. The parking lot was jam packed and lots of people were lined up waiting to taste a variety of foods available in the gourmet food trucks parked just outside the greenhouse.

Inside hundreds of people were either strolling through the garden center stocking up on plants, flowers and gardening supplies, visiting the 30+ vendors or taking in a cooking demonstration by some of the local chefs who were on hand to lend their expertise.
One of the highlights of the day was the Grilled Cheese Cook-Off featuring Jason Sobocinski, founder & owner of Caseus Fromagierie Bistro in New Haven who judged the event. There were three teams who within a specific amount of time had to create a grilled cheese sandwich made with a combination of cheeses from Caseus and from a box of secret ingredients that was placed at each of their stations. It was something you had to be there to see to really appreciate as each team digged down deep in their bag of culinary skills to whip up the most original and tasty grilled cheese sandwich.

It was a fun-filled afternoon and free to attend. It was my first time there and it certainly won't be my last. I'll be looking forward to see what's in store for next year's Escape to Spring Exposition 2014.
