Cashin' In At Emtees Redemption Center in East Haven CT

Who would have ever thought how much fun you can have in redeeming the 5¢ deposit for each of your bottles, cans and plastics.  It is one of those chores that I would try to avoid since I don't enjoy standing in line in a crowded vestibule waiting for the people ahead of me to dispose of their bags of recycleables in the one or two machines that are available in our local grocery stores.

Not any more!!!  A new recycling center recently opened in East Haven.  The Emtees Redemption Center is a 6,000 square foot facility with 35 machines for the recycling of your bottles, cans and plastics. 

There's even an express lane if you're in a hurry and have less the $6.00 in deposits.  Located at 690 Foxon Road, Emtees is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.

Ny granddaughter was visiting this past weekend and we had some grocery shopping to do to stock up on her favorite foods, drinks and treats.  Since I had recently read about the opening of the redemption center I mentioned it to my granddaughter who thought it would be a fun trip.  Of course I sweetened the pot a little by telling her that the amount of the deposit money we got back from the four bags of cans we had collected would be hers to keep and spend any way she wanted.

When we arrived we were both amazed by the size of the facility and the ease in finding a space at one of the machines for depositing our cans.  My granddaughter couldn't wait to start tearing open the bags we had and loved watching the machine gobble up and crunch each can she popped into the slot.  As she finished up one bag and went on to the next she never took her eyes off the running total of cans and how much she was racking up in her refund total.

With a little help from Grammy we were finished in about 20 minutes, had disposed of a total of 328 cans and turned in a refund receipt in the amount of $16.40.  My granddaughter was thrilled with her new found cash and we walked right over the dollar store next to Emtees where she treated herself to a board game that we could all play together when we got home. 

One of the other benefits from utolizing Emtees is that its owner Brian McCullagh works closely with the SARAH group providing jobs for the mentally handicapped and disabled.
