Peace Out Afghanistan! My Brother David Is On His Way Home!

Peace Out Afghanistan! My Brother David Is On His Way Home!

Today we mark Veterans Day to honor the brave and valiant men and women of our Armed Forces we have loved and lost.  We also honor those who are actively serving along with all the veterans who have answered the call to duty throughout the years defending this nation and fighting for our freedom.

There will many posts written today as we reflect upon Veterans Day from those who will pay homage to our veterans along with others like myself who have a special and personal bond with November 11th.

On November 11, 2008 I was honored and privileged to write my 100th post to thank my dad, my son, my brother and acknowledge my gratitude and respect to all our veterans past and present.

One year ago today our family said our good-byes to my brother David who was deploying for a one year tour to  Afghanistan with his Connecticut National Guard unit.

Peace Out Afghanistan

Today November 11, 2010 I am extremely thankful.  My brother David is on his way home!!  His unit is in transition with an expected arrival back to the United States within the next couple of weeks just in time for Thanksgiving.

It has been a year full of anxiety for our family and David's son Tristan who is our brave little hero and has been a trooper this past year while his Dad was gone. It will be so wonderful for our family to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday and David's homecoming.

I think David summed this past year up on his Facebook page where he wrote the following:

"Fight" has been the word of the day over the last year..Fight for my country, fight bad guys, fight boredom, fight fear...Here are my "F" words for the rest of 2010 into 2011..Family, Friends, and Fun...Peace out, Afghanistan.

Thank you for supporting our troops and their families and may God Bless America!

My 100th Post - To My Dad, My Son & My Brother On Veterans Day

Veterans Day 2008It is a privilege and deep honor to write my 100th post today on Veterans Day November 11th which is also celebrated in other parts of the world as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day marking the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that finally ended World War I at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

It is a day to pay our respect and say thank you to all of the men and women of our Armed Forces around the world who are currently serving and to those who served and sacrificed in years past so that we may enjoy the liberty and freedom we hold so dear today.

I especially want to say thank you and send my love to my Dad who served during World War II, my brother Dave, a member of the Connecticut National Guard who returned home last April from a one year deployment in Afghanistan and is expected to deploy again in early 2010 and to my son Bob who is in the U. S. Army and has served two tours in Afghanistan and two tours in Iraq.
