Starring Off The Summer Season- A Visit To Lighthouse Point Park In Morris Cove New Haven CT

With summer officially here, Lighthouse Point Park  in Morris Cove New Haven CT was filled to the brim on Memorial Day.  Cars were being turned away from entering the park during the early afternoon forcing park goers to find parking along the side streets.

Living near the park it was quite a sight to watch as car after car would line the side streets filled with people unloading their coolers, umbrellas and lounge chairs to make their way into the park by foot to have some fun in the sun.

After our own little cookout in our backyard my husband and I decided to take a walk to the park to check out all the activity taking place.  We were amazed to see how much traffic was backed up leading into the park and the amount of people and cars that had already made their way in.

It's typical for us to see huge crowds on the 4th of July but with this year's Memorial Day bringing us a perfect day of spectacular weather the park was overflowing with hundreds of people on the beach and finding their chosen spots under one of the many shady trees or pavilions for a barbecue and picnic.

Our first stop was to the boat ramp area where cars and trucks trailer in their boats and ski-doos with easy access to New Haven Harbor and then over to the pier where people were fishing and taking in the sights and sounds of the sailboats, motor boats and ski-doos cruising along Long Island Sound.

From there we proceeded along the path leading up to the historic focal point of  Lighthouse Point Park, the Five Mile Point Lighthouse.  No matter how many times we visit the park, we still marvel at the history and beauty of this 65 foot tower that sits at the entrance of New Haven Harbor.

As we rounded our way towards the Lighthouse we were both excited to see that the pavilion that is home to another historic landmark The Lighthouse Park Carousel was open so we decided to take a peek inside.

One side of the pavilion was being used for a very big party and the other was filled with enchanting organ music where children and their families were joyfully riding up and down on the magnificently carved horses of the merry-go-round.

Exiting the pavilion we headed towards the beach area where hundreds of sun-worshipers lined the beach taking in some rays or were frolicking in the waves of the ocean.  Having just visited the park a week earlier when the beach was completely empty, there was no doubt that the summer season was officially opened.

One of the newest attractions that is adjacent to the beach is the Lighthouse Park Splash Pad which is a series of water fountains that will absolutely delight and refresh you.

Surprisingly it took us just under an hour to make our way around the park and begin our journey back home ending one of what we hope will be many more delightful afternoons visiting Lighthouse Point Park this summer.
