Empire State of Mind - Never Forget The Heroes of 9/11

Empire State of Mind - Never Forget The Heroes of 9/11

It's been an extremely emotional day today filled with touching cermonies across the country on this the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001.  Watching them touched my heart so deeply as the famlies of the fallen gathered together to honor and pay tribute to their loved ones.

There were so many stories from the wives, husband, mothers, fathers and children who spoke about their tremendous loss and how difficult it has been for them over the past 10 years.

Today was also a day filled with baseball and football games with each one holding pre-game ceremony filled with touching tributes in memory of all who perished that day.

Through all the sadness there was one commercial being played throughout the day that inspired me with hope.  It is through the innocence and unconditinal love of our children that will give us all the strength to move forward through the days, months and years ahead.

"While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about." - Angela Schwindt

Active Rain Meet Up In Connecticut

Active Rain Meet Up In Connecticut

This past Wednesday night the Active Rain Meet Up in Connecticut was held by our own Dagny Eason at her home in Wilton CT.  The weather was not very cooperative that day with plenty of rainfall throughout the day but hey what else could you expect for an Active Rain meet up?

My original plans were to drive up with Andrea Swiedler and I was so looking forward to seeing her again as we had not seen one another since our epic Thimble Islands cruise two years ago.  Unfortunately Andrea had other matters that needed her immediate attention and emailed me about how disappointed she was at not being able to go.

About 26 people from both Active Rain along with a few others who Dagny is trying to recruit into joining Active Rain arrived during the course of the evening.

Having the opportunity to meet members face to face that I had gotten to know only through their posts on Active Rain was beyond exciting and really gave meaning to the word "family" when it comes to our Active Rain community.

There was great conversation, delicious food, hugs, kisses and bonds created that will only enforce the relationships we had already established prior to meeting one another.

My photos are not of the best quality because I had to use the camera on my phone because the battery in the digital camera I brought was dead and made me very unhappy,

Active Rain Wall To Honor & Pay Tribute In Commemoration Of The 10th Anniversary of September 11, 2001

Active Rain Wall To Honor & Pay Tribute In Commemoration Of

The 10th Anniversary of September 11, 2001

Tenth Anniversary of September 11, 2001On Sunday September 11, 2001 we will mark the 10th anniversary of the devastating attacks that took place on our homeland and forever changed our lives.

There will be many ceremonies taking place across the country in memory of the thousands who lost their lives that day.  In New York City at Ground Zero the National September 11 Memorial will open.

Surrounded by reflecting pools where the Twin Towers once stood are bronze parapets inscribed with the names of the 2982 people who died on September 11, 2001 and at the World Trade Center attack on February 26, 1993.

What is being created at Ground Zero is not just a memorial to the dead but a tribute to all of the soldiers who are fighting to keep us safe.

As a way to honor and pay tribute on the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001 we as members of Active Rain can form our own wall by acknowledging in your comment either the names or photo of a family member or someone you know who lost their life that day or a soldier who has or is currently serving fighting the war on terror to protect us each and every day.

Tenth Anniversary of September 11, 2001

We must never forget the events of September 11, 2001 and how the images we saw and the emotions we felt united us together with unity, compassion and strength in the days and months that followed.  There is no greater way that we as a community can share with each another and with others in this commemoration of the tenth anniversary of September 11. 2001.

My son, brother and two nephews are all members of the military and I wish to acknowledge and thank them here for their service to our country and to the sacrifices they have made and continue to make for all of us.

A Rainbow Connection Can Inspire That Driving Urge For Something More In Life

A Rainbow Connection Can Inspire That Driving Urge For Something More In Life

Rainbow Connection

We all need inspiration from time to time.  I tend to always look at the glass as half full and read affirmations daily in my life and in my business.  There are however just some times when a a challenge or a crisis comes up be it minor or major that puts up a roadblock in sustaining that positive attitude.

Those are the moments when you look for an answer to guide you in overcoming any negativity or limited beliefs that may be standing in your way.

In a driving urge for something more in life words and songs can instill just the inspiration that is needed.

The lyrics to the song Rainbow Connection sung by Kermit the Frog in the Muppet Movie evokes that message of inspiration.

PC Gone Amuck...Mayor Bloomberg No First Responders Or Clergy At 10th anniversary of 9/11

PC Gone Amuck...Mayor Bloomberg No First Responders Or Clergy At 10th anniversary of 9/11

It's hard to believe that it's been ten years since our lives, our country and our way of living was so shaken by the attack on our homeland when terrorists flew airplanes into the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.

The attacks that took place that day at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and the crash of Flght 93 in Shanksville, PA to thwart off an attack of the U.S. Capitol shook us at the core of our being and was meant to bring us to our knees.

Little did the terrorists who methodically plotted and planned these attacks understand the depth of the true spirit of our nation when faced with adversity.  We are a people who all came together in unity in spite of the hardships, challenges, sadness and intense grief that shook at our souls as we tried to comprehend and come to grips with the overwhelming loss of life that day.

We Must Never Forget September 11, 2001Now as we prepare to observe the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 at Ground Zero to honor the thousands who tragically died and sacrificed their lives I read this article yesterday that the Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg is not inviting First Responders or any members of the clergy to the memorial service.

In another article Andrew Brent a spokesman for the Mayor said the commemoration ceremony is for the victim's families.  Excuse me but the First Responders who were members of the fire department, police department and Port Authority are a family of close knit brothers and sisters who at a moment's notice risk their lives for the safety of the people of New York.

If it wasn't for their valiant efforts on 9/11 the loss of lives could have been even worse.  Hundreds of first responders perished in the Twin Towers so that others could live.  For the Mayor to exclude them from attending this ceremony is a slap in their face and their families and is disgraceful.

The fact that Bloomberg also wants to exclude any members of the clergy from speaking at the ceremony is in my opinion political correctness gone amuck.  Please tell me who gives him the authority to dictate who can and who cannot be there. Since when can't there be a moment of prayer for ALL that encompasses all faiths and religions?  Was it not the clergy and our faith no matter your religious beliefs that has kept us strong during the days, weeks and years following 9/11?

This is not the same America I grew up in where EVERYONE was included and no one was excluded for fear that it might offend someone or some group.  As each year goes by it appears that the memories of September 11, 2001 have faded away for far too many.  There is no greater honor or tribute that we can show to those who lost their lives that day than to think back to how we all felt in the days following 9/11 and to come together as one nation with compassion, strength and unity again.

How A Flower Can Create A Wonderful Memory

After reading William Johnson's post yesterday Photography-Summer Flowers it brought back wonderful memories of the day I got married.  This morning I went digging for my wedding album just so I could find a photo of the stephanotis bouquet I carried that day.

A Day of Memories

There were so many to choose from but the one I loved the most was this one with my youngest brother David who was my ringbearer that day.

He was such a ham and loved to sing at every chance he got and turned out to be the star of the day at our wedding reception when he got on stage with the band and sang Tie A Yelllow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree  by Tony Orlando & Dawn.

The story behind that song in the 1970's was that a yellow ribbon was a signal to an ex-convict to let him know he would be welcome home by his wife or lover.

Today the symbol of a yellow ribbon today represents suuport of our troops.  Call it coincidence but David ended up joining the Connecticut National Guard and has served two tours in Afghanistan.  Those yellow ribbons were a constant a reminder of him while he was deployed.

It was amazing as I looked back 36 years ago and vividly remember every moment of that day as if it were yesterday. Time has passed but the memories will be there forever. Thank you William for getting me to dig out that album and relive the most wonderful day of my life!
